The King is hereditary and is not elected. The President of the Government is nominated by the King and must obtain the confidence of the Congress of Deputies. The Cortes Generales normally serve four-year terms, but either chamber may be dissolved early. Electoral administration is carried out through the Central, regional where applicable, provincial and district electoral commissions, polling stations and the Electoral Register Office.
