The president is directly elected for five years, with a runoff if no candidate wins more than half of valid votes; two vice-presidents are elected on the same formula. Voting is compulsory from age 18 through age 70 and facultative thereafter. ONPE organizes and executes elections, JNE administers electoral justice and proclaims results, and RENIEC maintains the electoral register.
