  • Dewan Negara 70 seats 路 3-year term 路 partly indirectly elected and partly appointed

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong is the head of state and is chosen from among the Malay Rulers by the Conference of Rulers, so the presidency is indirect rather than popularly elected. Parliament has a maximum five-year term for the Dewan Rakyat unless dissolved earlier; the Senate is not directly elected in full.
