The Emir appoints the Prime Minister and ministers; ministers may sit in the National Assembly ex officio, but they are not elected as legislative members. An Amiri Order dated 2024-05-10 dissolved the National Assembly and suspended specified constitutional provisions for a period of no more than four years, during which the Emir and Council of Ministers assume the Assembly's powers.
