House of Representatives 138 seats · 4-year term · Mixed proportional representation: 97 seats from 18 local electoral districts using open lists and 41 seats from one nationwide district using closed party list
Senate 69 seats · 4-year term · Appointed by the King; members may be reappointed

The King is the hereditary head of state and appoints the Prime Minister and Senate. Only the House of Representatives is nationally elected; parliamentary elections normally occur within the four months preceding the end of the House's four-year term.
