The Chief Executive is elected by the 1,500-member Election Committee and then appointed by the Central People's Government; the office has a five-year term and a two-consecutive-term limit. The Chief Executive is Hong Kong's head of government and head of the HKSAR, while the President of the People's Republic of China is the national head of state and is not elected in Hong Kong.
