Løgting 33 seats · 4-year term · Direct public and secret elections under the Løgting election law

The King of Denmark is the hereditary head of state, while the Løgting elects the Prime Minister, who appoints the ministers. Faroese authorities govern transferred matters; Denmark retains responsibility for reserved matters such as constitutional, citizenship, foreign, security and defence affairs. The Faroe Islands also elect two members to the Danish Folketing.
