The President and Vice President are elected together by popular vote for four years, with a runoff unless the leading ticket wins an absolute majority or at least 40 percent with a margin greater than 10 points. Voting is compulsory for citizens aged 18 to 65 and optional for several categories, including 16- and 17-year-olds and people over 65. The Vice President is elected on the presidential ticket; the Prime Minister is not a separate office. The CNE organizes elections, while the Tribunal Contencioso Electoral handles electoral justice.
