The President combines the roles of head of state and head of government and is directly elected for five years by majority vote, with a runoff if no candidate exceeds 50 percent. The constitutionally reserved Turkish Cypriot Vice-President position is vacant; the House has 80 constitutional seats, but only 56 Greek Cypriot seats are currently filled through elections.
