Senate 11 seats · Appointed: five on the Premier's recommendation, three on the Opposition Leader's recommendation, and three independents appointed by the Governor

The Governor is appointed by the King, while the Premier is appointed by the Governor and is the elected leader of the majority in the House of Assembly. The House normally serves five years unless dissolved earlier; the Senate is appointed and is not a nationally elected office.
