The Elections and Boundaries Commission directs and supervises voter registration and elections, while the Elections and Boundaries Department handles day-to-day administration. The Prime Minister is appointed by the Governor-General from the House of Representatives majority, the Senate is appointed, and the National Assembly normally lasts five years unless dissolved earlier.
