  • House of Representatives 19 seats 路 5-year term 路 17 elected members chosen in single-seat constituencies by plurality vote; the Speaker and Attorney General are not elected constituency members
  • Senate 17 seats 路 5-year term 路 appointed by the Governor-General on constitutional advice or discretion

The monarch is represented by the Governor-General and does not exercise day-to-day executive authority. The Prime Minister is appointed from the House member who commands majority support; the Senate is appointed, while general elections choose the House's 17 constituency members. Parliament normally lasts five years but may be dissolved earlier.
